FUNDAMENTALS OF PRAYERS 5 - Thanksgiving

Always “glorify him with thanksgiving” -Psalms 69:30
This stage of prayers is very important. The need to thank Him for all he has done. In the first part, we thank and adore him for what He is, whom He is and what He stands for. But this stage, we want to thank him for what He has done. If you don't thank someone for they have done for you, how do you expect to receive from such a person again. If mere humans are worthy of thanksgiving, how much more our Father in heaven. The bible tells us to thank God in everything. 1Thessalonian 5:18. Don't leave it till tomorrow what you can do today. Making thanksgiving as part and parcel of your prayers delight God and bring more wonderful testimonies your way.

Benefits and Power of Thanksgiving:
1. It teaches you grateful attitude. Gratitude brings multiplication/multitude of blessings.
In John 6, the feeding of the 5000, Jesus thanked God for little, (John 6:11) and fed thousands. In the hand of that boy, it could only be a boy's portion. But in the hands of Jesus it fed a multitude, by the power of Thanksgiving.

2. It teaches you contentment. It assures you to declare that 'it may not be great today, but it's better than what it used to be. Paul said 'I have abased and abound' Phil 4:10-14

3. It brings about 'dead waking' miracles. Jesus in the raising of Lazarus, offered thanks. John 11:41-42. 'I thank you for you have heard me' This is what I call advance thanksgiving. Jesus did not claim the power to raise Lazarus, he gave that power to God, his father, tapping into the awesome power of thanksgiving.

Another aspect of thanksgiving is 'rejoicing' in the Lord, despite your situation.

“Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.
‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭3:17-19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

From the above passage we see other benefits of thanksgiving which is founded on rejoicing:
4. Those who are thankful live longer
5. Thanksgiving brings Gods wisdom
6. Those who are thankful walk high.

7. It gives you a complete and wholesome testimony. In Luke 17:11-19. One of the lepers came back and 'fell down on his face at His feet, giving him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.' Jesus wondered why others didn't return to give thanks. He completed the healing process for this 10th person, and said 'Arise, go your way, Your faith has made you well'

There is wisdom in thanksgiving. Be wise.

In the next part we will look at tools of thanksgiving.

Be blessed.
